CAV Ltd was established by Charles Anthony Vandervell in 1904. Headquartered in Acton, London, CAV specialised in accumulators, electric carriage lamps and switchboards. The firm pioneered the dynamo-charged battery principle and in 1911 produced the world’s first lighting system used on a double-decker bus. CAV was bought by Lucas in 1926 and, after a brief partnership with Bosch, later became known as Lucas CAV.
